Located in Hanham, Bristol, Uk, Subterranean Studios is a fully functional recording and rehearsal space for local bands and artists.
The ethos of Subterranean Studios is to provide a professional quality service at a very affordable budget, utilising modern technology and methods, to empower local musical talent to achieve their potential.
History
The studio started life in an abandoned factory unit in Kingswood, Bristol in late 2004, when co-founders Dave Seward & Jim Cogan set up a DIY project rehearsal studio for Dave's band, Alien Stash Tin, to practice in. Shortly afterwards, Jim set up the recording side of the project and they began inviting local bands to come in and rehearse and record in exchange for them contributing to the running costs. Over the next two years there were 4 regular bands rehearsing on weeknights at the factory, leaving weekends free for recording sessions. In that time Alien Stash Tin recorded their critically aclaimed debut album, and over 20 local bands passed through the doors to take advantage of the 'not for profit' ethos of the studio, including The Deadend Dolls, Panic Office, Redfall, Blood of Ash, The Band of the Eye, Two Miles Deep, The Glambusters and Herd of Turtles. However, it all came to an abrupt end when the factory fell foul of Local Fire Regulations(thank you, Landlord, don't expect a Christmas card next year!) in late 2007.
Dave and Jim had to find a new premises and start from scratch all over again...Which, of course, they did! And after much searching and a seemingly endless amount of DIY, they have built the all new Subterranean Studios in its new location at the SBI Centre in Hanham, Bristol.
